As a volunteer with the United States Geological Survey’s (USGS) The National Map Corps (TNMCorps), I contributed to enhancing the accuracy of national geospatial data by editing and verifying information on man-made structures across the United States. Utilizing a custom web-based map editor, I reviewed and updated data points for various structures, including schools, hospitals, fire stations, and post offices. This process involved researching each structure to confirm details such as name, address, and location, as well as adding new structures or removing those no longer in operation. The refined data directly supported the USGS National Structures Database and The National Map, aiding in the production of accurate U.S. Topo Maps and serving as a vital resource for emergency response, urban planning, and public services.
