In my cartographic work, I utilized ArcMap to create visually compelling, data-driven maps based on client requirements. This included working extensively with both file geodatabases and cartographic geodatabases, drawing data from sources such as OpenStreetMap, Google Earth, and custom datasets. My tasks involved not only geocoding and route mapping, but also applying projection transformations and selecting appropriate coordinate systems to ensure high spatial accuracy and data alignment across multiple layers.
I performed a wide range of vector-related operations including feature selection, snapping, definition queries, buffer analysis, and manipulation of attribute tables. These tasks were crucial in refining and structuring the data for accurate representation. I also worked with raster datasets, generating hillshades for background enhancement and topographic understanding, and handled projection corrections to maintain spatial consistency throughout the maps.
From a design perspective, I contributed to the cartographic styling of final map outputs, ensuring clear labeling, no overlapping features, logical symbology, and the integration of grids and scales. I included footnotes and map annotations that detailed climatic conditions, crime statistics, caution zones, and other relevant contextual information, enhancing the communicative power of the maps.
Additionally, I was involved in workflow improvement by developing a quicker method for snapping vector points to lines and integrating custom tools that improved overall map production speed and quality.
Note:
Due to privacy policies and data confidentiality agreements, I am unable to share or display many of the maps I have created as part of my professional work. These maps were developed using sensitive datasets for internal or client-specific use, and their distribution is restricted. However, I am happy to discuss the techniques, tools, and workflows I used in detail upon request.
